THE GREAT DELUGE

By Wendell Tenison

In spite of the fact that many scientists ignore the word of God and the exponential evidence left behind, there is beyond any doubt that there was a deluge that covered the entire earth. Elite men have sought to heap to themselves great accolades from their peers, even thousands who are illiterate in the word of God, who have been deceived into believing the mythical theories of evolution.

There is absolutely no need to become on the defensive where God Almighty has spoken, but the tables are turned on godless men who for centuries have tried to prove that God does not exist. Even with the greatest of them if given the opportunity, will acknowledge their Creator on their death bed.

I will not waste my time alluding to the myths of evolution, but rather expound upon what my God has revealed unto us regarding the great flood.

From the beginning of time to the destruction of every living creature that moved upon the face of the earth by the deluge, was a period of 1656 years. Enoch, the seventh from Adam and the father of Methuselah was taken by God. Methuselah, the oldest man whoever lived, 969 years, was father of Lamech, who was the father of righteous Noah, the preacher of righteousness. Lamech, died five years before the flood and his father Methuselah died the same year of the flood. Computer estimates have placed the number of people living on the earth just prior to the flood in the low eight figure range; probably 15-25 million.

Now to the chronological time frame of the flood waters upon the earth and Noah and his family with all the animals in the ark.

The 600th year, 2nd month, 17th day of the life of Noah:

600 + 2-17

Genesis 7:11 "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened."

600 + 3-27

Genesis 7:12 "And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights."

600 + 5-07

Genesis 7:24 "And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days."

Genesis 8:3 "And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated."

600 + 7-17

Genesis 8:4 "And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat."

600 + 10-01

Genesis 8:5 "And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen."

600 + 11-11

Genesis 8:6-8 "And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:.....And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth......Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;"

Genesis 8:10 "And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;"

600 + 11-25

Genesis 8:12 "And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more."

Genesis 8:9 "But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark."

The 601st year, the 1st month, 1st day of the life of Noah:

601 + 1-01

Genesis 8:13 "And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry."

601 + 2-27

Genesis 8:14-16 "And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried......And God spake unto Noah, saying,.....Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee."

The earth was under tremendous pressure due to the prevailing waters. We must go back to the creation when God created the heavens and the earth. However, at that time the earth being covered with water was without form and void. But, here the earth was solid mass not having mobility as it did before God separated the waters from the waters by placing a firmament in the midst, Gen.1:6-7. That is, the earth was in suspension as small dust particles in a jar of water.

How did the earth survive this onslaught of weight upon her?

2 Peter 3:5-6 "For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:.....Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:"

The Greek New Testament renders "subsisting" instead of "standing" in and out of the water. This simply means that the earth was subsisting by the word of God and only by his word. Otherwise, I believe the earth would have succumbed to the tremendous force of the water.

Genesis 6:21 "And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them." Genesis 7:11 "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened."

Genesis 8:2 "The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;"

There is no way to identify the percentage of either. God opened the doors of the sea and caused the fountains to gush out over the earth.

Job 38:8-11 "Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?.....When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,.....And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,.....And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?"

Was the water that came from the fountains of the sea salty or fresh?

Job 38:16 "Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?"

The answer is obvious, the water was fresh.

Genesis 7:20 "Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered."

Now the earth was as it was in the beginning except for one boat riding the waves.

Noah took of the clean animals by seven and the unclean by two.

Genesis 7:2 "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female."

What about all the ifs? If God could do all these other things, then surely he could provide a way to handle any situation that did arise.

As a result of Adam’s sin, God placed a curse upon the ground as a part of the penalty that Adam would suffer.

Genesis 3:17 "And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;"

After the terrible flood the curse is now lifted.

Genesis 8:21 "And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done."

Genesis 9:2 "And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered." Whereas, before the flood, man was a vegetarian.

Genesis 1:29-30 "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat......And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so."

Whereas, after the flood, man would eat of everything living thing that moves.

Genesis 9:3 "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things."

Genesis 9:9-17 "And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;.....And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth......And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth......And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:.....I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth......And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:.....And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh......And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth......And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth."

Psalm 104:5-9 "Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed forever......Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains......At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away......They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them......Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth."

Conclusion:

The flood was the first of three examples whereby water both saved and destroyed:

All living creatures of the earth were destroyed by water, but, only a few were saved by water. That is, Noah and his family.

1 Peter 3:20-21 "Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water......The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"

Pharoah and his armies were destroyed by the closing of the Red Sea upon them, but, the Israelites were saved by the same water which parted giving them an escape.

1 Corinthians 10:1-2 "Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;.....And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;"

Spiritually, under the new testament of Christ, the body of sins are destroyed by water, but, man is also now saved from his sins by water.

Colossians 2:11-12 "In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:.....Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead."

Romans 6:3-6 "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?.....Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life......For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:.....Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."

The body of sin is destroyed when we meet the blood of Jesus in the water grave of baptism.
