The Word of God is Quick (living) and Powerful
By Wendell Tenison
Names of the Word of God:
Mat 4:4 "But he answered and said, It is written,
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out
of the mouth of God."
Rom 7:22-25 "For I delight in the law of God after
the inward man:.....But I see another law in my members, warring against
the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which
is in my members......O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from
the body of this death?.....I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh
the law of sin."
Rom 8:6-7 "For to be carnally minded is death;
but to be spiritually minded is life and peace......Because the carnal
mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither
indeed can be."
God is all in all, but he has given all power and authority
to Christ, thereby, giving him the power of his law.
Rom 12:2 "And be not conformed to this world: but
be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what
is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
As man adds and deletes from the will of God, of necessity
it becomes imperfect. The will of God is good, acceptable and perfect to the saving of the soul.
1 Th 2:9 "For ye remember, brethren, our labour
and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable
unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God."
1 Pet 4:17 "For the time is come that judgment
must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall
the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?"
The word gospel simply means good news. We are charged
with the preaching of it and sinners are commanded to obey it.
Rom 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of
Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;
to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."
2 Cor 4:4 "In whom the god of this world hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious
gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."
When one refuses to believe the glorious gospel of Christ,
it is Satan who blinds their eyes so that they cannot see.
John 8:32 "And ye shall know the truth, and the
truth shall make you free."
John 17:17 "Sanctify them through thy truth:
thy word is truth."
The truth not only makes us free from the bondage of sin,
but from the power of others to control and hide the truth from us.
Heb 8:6-10 "But now hath he obtained a more excellent
ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which
was established upon better promises......For if that first covenant had
been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second......For
finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house
of Judah:.....Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of
Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not,
saith the Lord......For this is the covenant that I will make with the
house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into
their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God,
and they shall be to me a people:"
The covenant is the promise of God to mankind written
in our hearts and minds.
Eph 6:17 "And take the helmet of salvation, and
the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:"
As already quoted in this series, the word of God is sharper
than any two edged sword. It cuts on the front and back swing as the offensive
weapon of the Christian armament.
James 1:25 "But whoso looketh into the perfect law
of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but
a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed."
James 2:12 "So speak ye, and so do, as they that
shall be judged by the law of liberty."
The law of liberty of God verses the bondage of those
who were under the law of Moses. In other words, free from sin.
Rom 8:2-3 "For the law of the Spirit of life in
Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death......For what
the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending
his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin
in the flesh:"
2 Cor 3:17 "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and
where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
Christ is that Spirit, the law of the Spirit of life and
where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. The law of sin and death
has a twofold meaning; first, the law of God to Adam and Eve that if they
sinned, they would die; second, the law of Moses is called the law of sin
and death in that it was weak in the flesh and could not save anyone.
-
Testament or New Testament:
Heb 9:15-17 "And for this cause he is the mediator
of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the
transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called
might receive the promise of eternal inheritance......For where a testament
is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator......For
a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength
at all while the testator liveth."
The law of Moses was the testament as it was called before
it became the old and the testament of Christ is the new testament. We
already new that. In both cases neither became in effect until after the
testator died.
Gal 6:2 "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil
the law of Christ."
Except for the testament of Moses, the other eleven are
all attributed to Christ as the Saviour of the world, by which he will
judge the world.
