The Word of God is Quick (living) and Powerful

By Wendell Tenison

The Words of Christ are Spirit and Life:

John 6:63  "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

The words that Jesus spoke are equal to all scripture given by the inspiration or the breath of God, 2Tim.3:16. We cannot speak without exhaling our breath; therefore, breath equals inspiration and inspiration equals life.

2 Cor 3:17  "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

Now we understand that the words of Christ are spirit (his breath) and life, because he is Spirit and life. Therefore, his words which are his new testament that dwells within us is alive, because they are spirit (his breath). We conclude that Christ, his word, the Spirit and life are all the one and the same thing. O that all men could understand that the word of God is not paper and ink, but life everlasting to the saving of the soul.

Col 2:9  "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."

Jesus left no doubt in his discourses that the Father, himself and the Spirit are one. Regardless of the disbelief of many of my brethren that God, Christ and the Holy Spirit does dwell within us, the scripture resoundingly proves them wrong.

John 1:1-4  "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.".....The same was in the beginning with God......All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made......In him was life; and the life was the light of men."

The Word (Logos) is the Word within the Word. In other words, Jesus is within himself in several different aspects of the material and spiritual creation. Without him there was not anything made that was made. Since light is the energizing element of all life whether material or spiritual, so it is with his words that transforms man from darkness into the glorious light of his gospel.

John 1:9  "That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world."

John 1:14  "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

The Word (Logos) was made flesh and dwelt among us. Since man cannot see spirits, his fleshly body only served as a means whereby man could relate to him.

Heb 4:12  "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

The word of God is very much alive and if we become careless in the using, it can and will cut us deep, even to the destruction of our souls. Jesus said, that the word that he spoke will judge us in the last day, Jn.12:48. The bottom line is that the world for the most part has rejected and despise his word. This includes those in the church who trample under foot the blood of the covenant wherewith they were sanctified.

Just a word of free friendly advise, treat the word of God with the highest respect!

From this point on we will look at what the seven spirits of God has to do with his word. By no means are we saying, that this is the only work of his seven spirits.

Heb 12:9  "Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?"

I do not believe that man's most sophisticated computers could even begin to count the great number of spirits created by the Father.

Rev 1:4  "John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;"

Rev 3:1  "And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead."

Rev 4:5  "And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God."

Rev 5:6  "And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth."

The above verses clearly show that there are seven spirits of God before his throne and also sent forth into all the earth.

Zec 4:10  "For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth."

Here the scripture reiterates that the seven spirits are the eyes of God which run to and fro through the whole earth.

Isa 11:1-2  "And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:.....And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;"

Spirit of the Lord:

Rom 8:2  "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

Relating back to Christ being that Spirit, the law of Christ is the law of Spirit and life.

Spirit of Wisdom:

Eph 1:17  "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:"

Exo 28:3  "And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office."

Deu 34:9  "And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses."

2 Tim 3:15  "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."

The knowledge and revelation of Christ is his new testament from whence we attain wisdom unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. The spirit of wisdom is one of the several spiritual gifts that were imparted unto men in the first century by the laying on of hands, 1Cor.12:8.

Spirit of Understanding:

Eph 1:18  "The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,"

Col 1:9  "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;"

Dan 9:21-22  "Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation......And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding."

How can we know anything except by understanding? These are examples of God supplying us with understanding.

Spirit of Counsel:

I cannot find any direct quote regarding the spirit of counsel, but only refer back to Isa.11:2. To sum it up in one word, the word of God is "counsel."

Spirit of Might:

Eph 3:16  "That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;"

Here again, the spirit of might is within us by the Spirit who dwells within us. Heb.4:12, has already been quoted how that the word is God is quick and powerful leaving no doubt that the spirit of might is within it.

Spirit of Knowledge:

Again, I refer back to Isa.11:2. The new testament of Christ is his knowledge and revelation. So how can the spirit of knowledge not be within it?

Spirit of Fear of the Lord:

Rom 8:15  "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."

2 Tim 1:7  "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

These two verses clearly show that God does have a spirit of fear. The spirit of fear works both to the positive and negative according to the good pleasure of the will of God. However, we know, that the Holy Word of God is filled with warnings that must not ignored. This is how the spirit of fear is within his word.
